Skull-Shaped Asteroid to Pass by Earth Near Halloween

A frightening skull-shaped asteroid will pass by Earth just after Halloween.  The asteroid first flew past Earth on Halloween in 2015.  This year, it will zip by in mid November, researchers say.

According to NASA, the object is most likely a dead comet.  With its eerie shape, it’s no wonder it’s gained nicknames like “Death Comet,” the “Great Pumpkin,” and “The Halloween Comet.”

In 2015, the asteroid passed by within 300,000 miles from the Earth.  To put that into perspective, the moon is an average of 238,855 miles from Earth.  According to researchers, it won’t be near as close to our planet this year.  Nonetheless, it’s still undeniably creepy.
