History of the Ferris Wheel at the Greater Pee Dee State Fair

Believe it or not, the Ferris Wheel dates all the way back to the late 1800's and was originally invented to rival the Eiffel Tower.

Have you ever wondered about the history of the Ferris Wheel?  When you think of a fair, amusement park, or carnival, a Ferris Wheel is sure to come to mind.

People have been enjoying this ride for ages.  Since the late 1800’s to be exact.  When inventor and civil engineer George Washington Gale Ferris Jr. proposed the idea of inventing a giant observation wheel to rival the Eiffel Tower, people laughed and said there’s no way it would ever move.  Who would have thought we would still be enjoying the Ferris Wheel today?  Come along with us for the ride and learn some fun facts about the world’s first Ferris Wheel.

We rode this traditional Ferris Wheel at the Greater Pee Dee State Fair at the Florence Center in Florence, South Carolina.
