Here in the South, we love food and take pride in preparing it. The main ingredient is always love and we never skimp on all the fixins. Around Thanksgiving, we prep our menus well in advance. There are a few dishes that every South Carolinian will have on their Thanksgiving table. Here's a list of those! What's your favorite Thanksgiving tradition?
Honey Baked Ham
Most South Carolinian’s often serve turkey AND ham for Thanksgiving. This sweet meat pairs perfectly with savory turkey and all the sides.
No Thanksgiving is complete without Cranberry Sauce. It’s just not the same without it, and it’s usually the only time of year we eat it. For that reason, skimp on the can and make your own with 3 ingredients, plus a few herbs and spices.
We wait for it all year long. Grandmaw’s Homemade Dressing is usually everyone’s favorite Thanksgiving side and it gets gone fast. This recipe gets passed down from generation to generation, and she never gives it out.
Green Bean Casserole
We love our casseroles and Green Bean Casserole always makes its way to the top of the list. With crunchy onion topping and a savory, creamy flavor, its something we make often in the South, and we’d never leave it off of our Thanksgiving table.
Mac and Cheese
Everyone loves mac and cheese, but you’ll only find it on a Thanksgiving table in the South. I mean, what’s NOT to love about this cheesy comfort food?
Sweet Potato Casserole
It doesn’t matter if you throw pecans or marshmallows on top. Either way, this sweet, gooey side always has us coming back for more.
I mean, this is a given. It’s just what we drink, ya’ll!
Pecan Pie, Hummingbird Cake, and Sweet Potato Pie
We never save room for dessert on Thanksgiving, but we eat it anyway. No Thanksgiving would be complete without Pecan Pie and Sweet Potato Pie. If you’re in the mood for cake, why not add the South’s best… Hummingbird Cake.
