Alabama’s hit single ‘Dancin’, Shaggin’ on the Boulevard’ highlights iconic spots throughout the Grand Strand

Hear some stories about "Dancin', Shaggin' on the Boulevard" that you may have never heard before.

There was so much excitement in the Myrtle Beach area about Alabama coming back to their roots and headlining the Carolina Country Music Fest in 2019.  In honor of their performance, we had to take a look at one of their hit singles, “Dancin, Shaggin’ on the Boulevard” which highlights iconic spots throughout the Grand Strand.  Many places that still stand today are mentioned in the song, including the Bowery, where Alabama served as the house band from 1973-1980.

We caught up with Norfleet Jones, former owner and operator of Duck’s in North Myrtle Beach.  Jones remembers when the video was shot and shares stories about the video and song that you may have never heard before.  What’s more, Jones says Alabama brought new life to the dance, the shag, as well as national attention to the area.  Come along with us and take a walk down memory lane.
